Just because the riders started late in the afternoon didn't mean i got a break to and a chance to enjoy the coutnry side there was a press meeting at 11am.
I packed myself in the car and set off, but two minutes down the road i decieded that i should put a jacket in the car seemed silly to leave in shorts and t-shirt for a whole day out, despite teh fact it was almost 30 at 9:30am i went back and got the waterproof and a jacket. I would realise how good this decision would be until a lot latre.
The photographers meeting kicked off; during which the usual happened, the ASO guys spoke very quickly in french and i understood every third word and didn't understand the entirety of what was being said. Yet again i curse myself for not applying more effort into learning french. Still photobib obtained it was a chance to eat some free lunch and kill 4 or 5 hours till the first rider headed off the start ramp.
Heading out on the course didn't feel me with a great amount of joy, it was a long wat round and very barriered off becuase there wre so many spectators around. this made chosing a place to shoot very easy and very hard all at the same time. by the time i had walked passed the start ramp i began to reliase how grateful i would be that i went back to get a jacket as the first drops of water started to fall from the sky.
I walked a few Km's up the course but having got a little wet and feeling quite uninspired by the course i slogged back to the first place to join some others who were now finding ways to shelter themselsves and more importantly the camera gear from the rain.
Improvising freebies thrown out from the caravan or scarifcing personal waterproofing to kep the cameras a bit dry was the choise of the day but finally the wait was over and at least an end was in sight for the prologue.
contray to an other outside bets the running order performed pretty much to form. It didn't take much imagination to put money on the high speed train that is Cancellera. Admittedly Tony Martin, David Millar and a few others managed to give him a very good run for his money and with a helping had from the rain he at least had to work hard for the first yellow jersey
